Artists' Workshop at Charlton Lake

Marlies Schoenefeld Experience the beauty of La Cloche in early fall during our inaugural Artists’ Workshop at Charlton Lake. Our featured guest and instructor is celebrated landscape artist Marlies Schoenefeld.

Marlies has been interpreting the local landscape in her vibrant and award-winning style for more than 15 years. She was the 2011 Distinguished Artist at the 34th annual La Cloche Art Show. We are so happy she will be leading this very special event!

Syllabus

Thursday
  • Arrive and check in any time after 12pm/noon
  • Explore the area: hike, paddle, paint...or just relax!
  • Get-acquainted party 7:00; snacks and soft drinks provided; BYOB
  • Evening campfire - weather permitting
Friday
  • Programs:
    • Morning:
      • Marlies Schoenfeld Retrospective and Introduction to La Cloche Country
    • Afternoon:
      • 1-on-1 and small group sessions with Marlies
      • Lake tours and hikes - arranged to suit guests' desires
      • Creative time - we’ll shuttle guests to their favorite sites
  • Meals*: Continental Breakfast by CLC, Lunch on-your-own, Pot Luck Dinner
  • Evening campfire - weather permitting
Saturday
  • Programs:
    • Continue 1-on-1 and small group sessions with Marlies
    • Lake tours and hikes - arranged to suit guests' desires
    • Creative time - we’ll shuttle guests to their favorite sites
  • Meals*: Continental Breakfast by CLC, Lunch on-your-own, Lasagna* and sides
  • Evening campfire - weather permitting
  • Sunday
    • Programs:
      • Lake tours and hikes - arranged to suit guests' desires
      • Creative time - we’ll shuttle guests to their favorite sites
      • 1:00 to 3:00pm Group critique and discussion
  • Meals*: Continental Breakfast by CLC, Lunch on-your-own
  • Check out by 4:00pm
  • * Please let us know of special dietary needs and we will do our best to accommodate them for the meals listed in the syllabus. Lasagna dinner will include a vegetarian version and meat version.

    Registration and Fee

    Register by contacting Charlton Lake Camp:

    • The fee for the workshop is $275.
      This covers accommodations and all meals and activities detailed in the syllabus.
    • Registration requires a non-refundable deposit of $150.
    • Please note: The workshop is limited to 12 guests.

    General Information

    All experience levels are welcome. Marlies will tailor the program to suit individual needs and expectations.

    September is a beautiful time of year in La Cloche country. The workshop will include plenty of "outside time" for painting en plein air, exploration, and inspiration. Of course, Mother Nature will dictate our activities to an extent, and we have indoor space for instruction and workshops in case of bad weather.

    Charlton Lake Camp provides clean, well-equipped housekeeping/self-catering cottages. Cottages include all linens and paper goods, kitchen ware, 3-piece bath, propane grills, screened porch, and picnic table.

    Accommodations for the workshop are "single occupancy"; that is, each guest attending the workshop gets his/her own bedroom w/ double or queen bed in a shared 2- or 3-bedroom cottage.

    Spouse may share a bedroom with a workshop guest for an additional fee of $75.
